8 September is the thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost.

Readings for this week with thanks to www.umcdiscipleship.org

Use these readings in “The Word” step below.

Jeremiah 18:1-11.  At the potter’s house: “Look, I am a potter shaping evil against you. … Turn now, all of you from your evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.”

Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18.  God knows us completely, inside and out. Thus God can both judge us and show mercy toward us when we repent.

Philemon 1-21.  Paul writes to persuade a slaveholder (Philemon) to emancipate his slave, Onesimus.

Luke 14:25-33. Jesus lays out the non-negotiables for those who want to be his disciples: put God first, carry the crossbar of a Roman crucifix as you follow Jesus, and give up all your possessions.

Monday:

Adoration Focus: Psalm 102:12 But you, O Lord, sit enthroned for ever…

Confession: Sandy Millar defines sin as the difference between what God calls me to be and what I am.  As you bring your life before God this week ask yourself what God is calling you to be.  What are some goals that God would hold before you?  Each day try to grow your list of goals as God leads.  What is God saying to you today?

The Word: See readings above.
